Not for burning wood. At the 44 doors Simple Lyfe Stays manages across western Michigan, the fireplaces guests can use are electric or gas, and wood burning indoors is not permitted at any of them. The fire you can actually light is outside: a fire pit, which 18 of the 23 cabins and houses detailed in our amenity inventory have and five do not. That gap between "fireplace" in a listing photo and "a fire you are allowed to light" is the thing worth checking before you book an October weekend in Newaygo, Lake, Oceana or Muskegon County.
Why is indoor wood burning not allowed?
It is a portfolio policy, not a building problem. Simple Lyfe Stays settled the question across every managed property in April 2026: no guest burns wood indoors, so any fireplace a guest can switch on is electric or gas. The decision shows up in our maintenance calendar, which is how you know it is real rather than fine print. The annual chimney-sweep ticket was removed from our recurring-maintenance templates entirely, because after the rule landed no door needed one. Only two of the 23 inventoried cabins document an indoor fireplace of any kind in the first place.
Do Michigan cabin rentals have fire pits?
Most of ours do, and the pit is the better amenity anyway. Eighteen of the 23 inventoried doors carry a documented outdoor fire pit. Cozy Muskegon Getaway Near Lake Michigan with Pool is a straightforward example: three bedrooms, one bath, sleeping up to six, with a fenced yard, a fire pit, an outdoor grill, central heat and air, and room for two dogs for a fee. It sits a short drive from Pere Marquette Park and downtown Muskegon.
Is firewood provided?
Usually not, and firewood is a separate question from the fire pit. Our inventory records a firewood arrangement on only a handful of doors: provided at no charge at one, available for purchase on site at another, and not noted at all at most of the rest. A fire pit is a fixture and firewood is a supply, and the two do not travel together. If a fire is part of why you are booking, ask the host what is stocked rather than assuming the ring comes with a stack beside it.
Which cabins do not have a fire pit?
The downtown houses and the largest estates, as a rule. Lake Michigan Castle near Silver Lake Dunes in Shelby, Oceana County, is the clearest case: six bedrooms, seven baths, sleeping 15, with Lake Michigan beach access minutes from the Silver Lake Sand Dunes, and no fire pit, with firewood listed as a purchase rather than a provision. We publish that gap on purpose. A group that books a 15-person house for a bonfire weekend and arrives to find no fire ring has had an avoidable bad night.
Before you book, read the amenity list rather than the title, and ask two questions: is there a fire pit, and is there wood. You can browse every door at our properties page. If outdoor heat matters more to you than flame, cabins with hot tubs in western Michigan covers the doors that run one year-round.
