Yes. Every door Simple Lyfe Stays manages comes with a kitchen you can actually cook in, and at most of them that means a stove, an oven, a microwave, a refrigerator and a freezer rather than a hot plate and good intentions. Simple Lyfe Stays manages 44 doors across Oceana, Mason, Mecosta, Newaygo, Lake, Kent and Muskegon counties. When we counted the guest instructions stored on our own 49 property records this week, the dish line was present at all 49 of them, which makes it one of the few things we tell every single guest. So the question is almost never whether there is a kitchen. It is what is in the drawers, and that part changes from one cabin to the next.
Do Michigan cabin rentals have a full kitchen?
Most do, and "full kitchen" in our inventory means a specific list rather than a mood. Hart Lake House in Hart, in Oceana County, is recorded as a fully stocked kitchen with new appliances: dishwasher, stove, microwave, refrigerator and freezer, in a three bedroom, one bath house that sleeps six. Hawks Nest on Whalen Lake outside Baldwin, in Lake County, is a two bedroom, one bath log cabin sleeping four, and its record lists a coffee maker, refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave and freezer plus dishes, flatware, pots and pans and a dining table. The exceptions in our portfolio are the few small doors recorded as a kitchenette instead, and kitchenette is the word our own inventory uses for them. If a listing says kitchenette rather than full kitchen, read it literally and plan dinner accordingly.
Does a cabin rental have a dishwasher?
Sometimes, and the dishwasher is the single least predictable thing in a cabin kitchen. The place it shows up most reliably is the departure instruction. Across our 49 property records the dish line splits three ways: 27 tell you to load the dishwasher and start it, 20 tell you to wash the dishes by hand and put them away, and 2 leave it as either. Indian Lakes Hideaway in Sparta, in Kent County, and Hawks Nest are both recorded without a dishwasher, and both ask you to wash by hand. Hart Lake House is recorded with one and asks you to run it on your way out. For a group cooking three dinners that is a real difference in how the week feels, and it is invisible in a photograph of a countertop.
What cookware and utensils does a cabin kitchen have?
Pots, pans, dishes, flatware and a table to eat at are the baseline, and past that it thins out quickly. A baking sheet is recorded at only a handful of our kitchens. Hawks Nest is one of them, and its record also lists BBQ utensils, wine glasses and a toaster. The honest limit is the one we write down about ourselves: one of our records lists upgraded kitchen knives and cookware under what the property does not have, with a note that guest reviews called the existing set basic. A knife set is the kind of thing that rarely makes a listing either way. If you are the person who cares about that, bring your own and a dish towel to roll it in.
Are spices, oil and coffee provided at a cabin rental?
A coffee maker is recorded at most of the kitchens we have inventoried. Coffee itself, the actual grounds, is recorded at only a few, and Hawks Nest is one of the few. Spices are the same story: Indian Lakes Hideaway lists spices, wine glasses, a toaster and an ice maker, which almost none of our other kitchens have on record, and Hawks Nest lists spices and pantry items. Neither is a guarantee of what is in the cupboard the morning you arrive, because a previous guest may have used the last of the salt. Treat recorded pantry items as a nice surprise and bring the three or four seasonings your actual dinner depends on.
Is there a grill at a Michigan cabin rental?
Usually, and at most doors it runs on propane. The instruction to make sure the gas grill is turned off before you leave sits on 38 of our 49 property records, worded identically at all 38 of them. Both Hart Lake House and Indian Lakes Hideaway carry a propane grill on their inventory entries and both carry that shutoff line. The eleven records without the line are not all grill free. The instruction set simply was not written the same way at every door, which is the plainest argument there is for reading your own arrival message instead of assuming the cabin works like the last one.
How many plates and glasses does a cabin have?
Enough for the advertised group, because the counts come from a per guest multiplier rather than from whatever was in the cupboard when the house was listed. We wrote that system up in full in how many towels a cabin rental provides, including the plate, mug and glass multipliers and why mugs carry the highest one. The short version for cooking purposes: if the listing says sleeps eight, the kitchen is stocked for eight sitting down at once.
What should you bring to cook at a cabin?
Bring coffee, the seasonings you care about, a sharp knife if you are particular, and the first morning's groceries. Small town western Michigan has good grocery stores, and checking the hours of the one nearest your cabin before you drive is worth the thirty seconds, because arriving in Baldwin or Sparta late at night with an empty cooler is a plan that can go wrong. Foil, plastic wrap and your own cooking oil are worth throwing in the car.
How do you check a cabin's kitchen before you book?
Read the kitchen section of the amenity list, then ask one question about the item you actually need. A listing will tell you there is a kitchen; it will not always tell you whether the dishwasher exists or whether the oven is full size. Amenity lists also drift, which is why we published what to verify yourself before booking. Ask for the kitchen specifics in writing before you pay, and if you are deciding between cabins, the kitchen notes on each of our Michigan properties are the place to start.
